A wine cooler is an appliance, which is helpful in cooling wine for several hours and days. It looks like a small refrigerator and makes use of the same working principle too.
History of Wine Cooler
The tradition of cooling wine started in 1980. Before this, wine was cooled by traditional methods, just the way folks cooled water. Later on, a separate technology was discovered to cool only wine.
Nowadays, wine coolers are developed in many shapes and sizes. It is totally customer’s choice to select the type, shape, design, and color of wine cooler. Currently, there are many wine cooler models available in market. Although there are plenty of different models, all of them work on the same underlying technology.
Types of Wine Coolers
There are three different types of wine coolers; they are –
• Built-in wine cooler,
• Countertop wine cooler, and
• Free standing wine cooler.
Let us briefly discuss about these three types.
Built-in Wine Coolers
Just like standard refrigerators, wine coolers are also designed to give clean and attractive look to the living room or kitchen. The built-in wines coolers are designed in such a way that they don’t occupy too much of space in the kitchen. This cooler can be mounted on any wall in the kitchen just like a tray. If the user wants to have cool wine, he/she needs to simply pull out the tray. Along with cooling effect, it adds good smell and improves the taste of the wine too.
Countertop Wine Coolers
Countertop Wine Coolers overcome all problems that are associated with built-in wine coolers. They are comparatively inexpensive and occupy less space in kitchen. Inside the countertop wine cooler, one can store many bottles and this option isn’t available in other wine coolers.
Free Standing Wine Coolers
A free standing wine cooler is more versatile and slightly cheaper than other wine coolers. But, its disadvantage is that it requires more kitchen space due to its size. One more problem associated with this cooler is that it is not portable and you cannot transport it easily. This is so because it needs to be installed in a particular area with screws.
Moreover, this cooler needs an outlet and it requires more ventilation area just like a refrigerator.
Working of Wine Cooler
Coming to working of wine cooler, its working is just similar to working of refrigerator. However, it is a smaller than a refrigerator. Most of the components used in refrigerator are used in wine coolers too.
